{"id":49615,"date":"2025-10-14T17:57:08","date_gmt":"2025-10-15T00:57:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tomu.us.com\/?p=49615"},"modified":"2025-10-14T17:58:16","modified_gmt":"2025-10-15T00:58:16","slug":"like-__-these-mountain-wanderers-stepping-into-the-forest-to-rediscover-their-connection-with-the-land","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tomu.us.com\/index.php\/2025\/10\/14\/like-__-these-mountain-wanderers-stepping-into-the-forest-to-rediscover-their-connection-with-the-land\/","title":{"rendered":"Like __ these mountain wanderers: stepping into the forest to rediscover their connection with the land."},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\">On <strong>August 4, 2025<\/strong>, the <strong>CMP Pujen Cultural &amp; Arts Foundation<\/strong> held the <strong>5th Mountain Fellowship Gathering<\/strong> at <strong>0km Mountain Base<\/strong> in Taipei.<\/p><p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\">Under the theme <strong>\u201cLike ____ These Mountain Wanderers\u201d<\/strong>, seven individuals from diverse fields\u2014each deeply connected to Taiwan\u2019s mountains and land\u2014were invited to share their stories, experiences, and practices rooted in nature.<\/p><!--more--><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/tomu.tw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/IMG_1049-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-49471\"\/><\/figure><p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><br>This event focused on the relationship between people and nature, centering on the themes of <strong>forest stewardship, terroir brewing, and healing culture<\/strong>, guiding participants to reflect on the distance between ourselves and the land.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/tomu.tw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/IMG_0858-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-49472\"\/><\/figure><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Assistant Professor <strong>Chang Chia-Lun<\/strong> from the <strong>Department of History, Chinese Culture University<\/strong>, delivered a talk titled <em>\u201cForest Governance in Colonial Taiwan: Did You Know There Were Bananas in the Camphor Forests?\u201d<\/em><\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He explored the history of Taiwan\u2019s forest management during the Japanese colonial era, posing the intriguing question: \u201cDid you know that camphor forests were once filled with banana trees?\u201d Through this lens, he revealed how ecological knowledge and human\u2013land interactions evolved under the influence of colonial policies and continue to shape Taiwan\u2019s modern landscape transformation.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/tomu.tw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/IMG_0870-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-49473\"\/><\/figure><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Lin Chia-Min<\/strong>, board member of the <strong>Taiwan Forest Therapy Society<\/strong>, presented a talk titled <em>\u201cA New Benchmark for Asian Forestry: South Korea\u2019s Forest Welfare Act and Healing Policy.\u201d<\/em><\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He shared how South Korea has promoted a culture of forest healing through legislation, fostering a new dialogue between forests and public health. His insights offered valuable inspiration for Taiwan\u2019s potential future direction in forestry and nature-based well-being.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/tomu.tw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/IMG_0894-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-49474\"\/><\/figure><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Hsu Chia-Chun<\/strong>, Associate Researcher at the <strong>Taiwan Forestry Research Institute<\/strong> and author of <em>\u201cThe Tree Seekers: A Botanist\u2019s Journey in Search of East Asia\u2019s Giant Trees,\u201d<\/em> delivered a talk titled <em>\u201cOur Tree Friends.\u201d<\/em><\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Through his presentation, he introduced the rich ecology of Taiwan\u2019s ancient and monumental trees, guiding the audience to better understand and appreciate the living heritage of forests across the island.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/tomu.tw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/IMG_0948-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-49475\"\/><\/figure><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also personally led participants in a field activity titled <em>\u201cVisiting Our Tree Friends.\u201d<\/em> Within the multilayered forest of the <strong>0KM Mountain Base<\/strong>, attendees were guided to meet and photograph a century-old camphor tree, experiencing firsthand the beauty of ecology and the passage of time.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Beyond academic and policy discussions, the event also invited <strong>local practitioners of terroir culture<\/strong> to share their creative journeys rooted in the land.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/tomu.tw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/IMG_0975-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-49476\"\/><\/figure><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Culinary curator Kao Ching-Yu<\/strong> shared her talk titled <em>\u201cPreserving the Taste of Taiwan\u2019s Terroir Through Ingredients.\u201d<\/em> She explored how food memories and local agricultural curation can rekindle people\u2019s sensory and emotional connections to the land.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Through her presentation, she showcased the unique flavors of Taiwanese dried fruits \u2014 among them, the most distinctive being <strong>dried watermelon<\/strong>. Kao thoughtfully explained how each fruit is transformed into dried fruit, highlighting both the challenges and the special characteristics of the process, offering valuable lessons drawn from experience.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/tomu.tw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/IMG_0980-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-49477\"\/><\/figure><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Sharon<\/strong>, founder of the brand <strong>Yanzhi<\/strong>, shared her journey of fermentation and brand development \u2014 a process through which she discovered new ways to explore self-identity and reconnect with the land through brewing.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Chen Pu<\/strong>, creator of <strong>Black and Bluecosmos<\/strong>, presented <em>\u201cCrafting Nature: Beyond Organic Symbiosis,\u201d<\/em> showcasing creative projects that envision coexistence and collaboration with the natural world.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/tomu.tw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/IMG_1012-1-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-49479\"\/><\/figure><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The event also featured a presentation by <strong>Chao Cheng<\/strong>, founder of the brewing brand <strong>TOMU<\/strong>, titled <em>\u201cOne Glass for Good Harvest, Two for Great Fortune.\u201d<\/em> From millet cultivation to terroir-based brewing, he used wine as a medium to tell stories of human connection, the land, and the passage of time.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Attendees were invited to sample TOMU\u2019s latest creations \u2014 <strong>Red Oolong Millet Sparkling Wine<\/strong>, <strong>Green Plum Millet Sparkling Wine<\/strong>, and <strong>Peach Honey Millet Sparkling Wine<\/strong> \u2014 each embodying the brand\u2019s heartfelt philosophy that <em>\u201cto drink this glass is to taste the spirit of Taiwan\u2019s terroir.\u201d<\/em><\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/tomu.tw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/IMG_0965-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-49481\"\/><\/figure><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The event also featured <strong>a dried fruit tasting<\/strong>, showcasing local agricultural products from various regions \u2014 including the exceptionally rare <strong>dried watermelon<\/strong> \u2014 allowing participants to experience the dedication and passion of each artisan toward their craft.
